Thomas Pennant sends Linnaeus a list with the names of some hundred birds. Pennant writes his synonyms in English. The corresponding names in Latin are taken from Linnaeus’s Systema naturae, 10th edition.
There are references to the illustrations in Pennant’s British Zoology:
The Irish eagle Tab. A Falco chrysaetus
The Kite Tab. A.2 Falco milvus
Moor Buzzard Tab. A.5 Falco aeruginosus
etc.
P.S. Pennant has unexpectedly received a letter from Linnaeus [presumably Linnaeus to Pennant, 3 September 1763{L3302}, this letter has not come down to us]. He eagerly awaits the books that Linnaeus has promised to send. In the spring he will send his British Zoology. Pennant tells Linnaeus how he wants to be quoted.
