Christian Fredrik Fick writes that since May 22nd of last year he had been unable to write to Linnaeus. Fick’s never-ending travels and dissipation had been the reason, but now he had found a subject that he thought worthy of communicating, and also confirming that Laplysea in reality is Depilans, which he had found on the Tuscan coast and also at Naples. This had reminded Fick of his obligation to Linnaeus. Fick had not seen the enclosed worm in nature when together with Linnaeus but possibly in an engraving. He hoped that the worm might serve some purpose.
