Pietro Arduino apologises for not having answered two letters [Linnaeus to Arduino, 3 November 1764{L3484} and another letter dated 1 December, which has not come down to us] from Linnaeus, but he has been in Venice for more than three months. Now, he is back in Padua and sends an answer.
Arduino thanks Linnaeus for the reports received so far on the specimens sent, and asks for Linnaeus’s opinion on the others.
Arduino does not think that Linnaeus is right in defining one of the plants as Lagoecia cuminoides. It should be a new genus, so Arduino asks Linnaeus to look once more. Also, Linnaeus has defined one plant as Rumex aculeatus, but it does not agree with the definition given by Linnaeus in the Species plantarum.
Arduino sends some of the seeds wanted by Linnaeus. Arduino asks Linnaeus to send him an answer as soon as possible; in particular, it would make Arduino very obliged to Linnaeus if Linnaeus could get him a membership in the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences [Kungliga Svenska Vetenskapsakademien].
