Anna Blackburne writes to Linnaeus to tell him that she has received some birds and insects, which her brother [Ashton Blackburne], who lives near New York in America, had killed within fifty miles from where he lives. Blackburne has not been able to find those species in the Systema naturae [Blackburne refers presumably to the 12th edition, Systema naturae, 12th edition]. Blackburne offers to send them by ship from Liverpool, but she asks for the correct address. She also asks Linnaeus to send her an answer very soon, since the sailing season from Liverpool to Stockholm will soon be over for that year. Blackburne writes in English, like John Ellis, who also used that language. Blackburne would be quite ready to use French, if Linnaeus prefers that. P. S. She gives her address and wonders if she has got Linnaeus’s address correctly.
