Abstract
Old number 12. This is the most comprehensive version of the popular epos Yusuf Bek and Ahmad Bek known to exist. It differs considerably from the version published by Vambéry and from that of Prov. 274. Here there are two kings, one called Aghris Khan and one called Yunus Khan. Aghris Khan has three children, two boys Yusuf and Ahmad and one daughter. When they are eight and ten years old Aghris Khan gets ill and dies. Before he dies he entrusts his children to the vezir Boz Oghlan Khan and his wife La'l Khan Ayim. Yusuf and Ahmad are brought up to be soldiers and undertake campaigns which bring them to the great river of Egypt etc
