Abstract
Johann Bartsch sends some sheets to Linnaeus to read through. Bartsch hopes to have the last sheets soon. Bartsch has some questions for Linnaeus. He has received a plant called
Ficoidea
. He asks what class and order it belongs to. He also wonders about monster plants and why nature brings forth so many monsters; it happens more often among plants than in the animal kingdom. Bartsch has a male
Myrica
but no female
Myrica
.
Tetradynamia
is discussed.
Herman Boerhaave has lectured on
Corcula
, etc.
Hieronymus David Gaub suffers from the tertian fever [malaria].

Fautori suo colendo
S[alutem] P[lurimam]
Joannes Bartsch.
En quas Tibi, ut perlegas, transmitto philyras, exspectans summa cum
aviditate totius operis ultimas. Anceps haereo, num Tibi adeo frequentibus molestus
esse auderem quaestionibus. Accepi plantam Titulo Ficoideae; cuius an classem vel
ordinem examine iusto adsequi possim, summopere dubito; ad singula, pace Tua,
genicula dicam, duos video flores, de nonnullis persuasus esse hermaphroditos, vix
vero de omnibus; de eo certissimus, quod ad Polyandriam specimen meum non
pertineat. Quid ergo? Pertinetne rursus ad monstra; quaero itaque, quinam Tibi sint
caracteres monstrosae plantae, et cur Natura in producendis monstris regni vegetabilis
adeo fertilis, immo fertilior quam in regno animali. Myricam marem adquisivi facile, ast
Tetradynamiam continere alcalescentes herbas. Ergo concludo, morbum tollere possum
augendo caussam morbi; cum hoc ipse negaturus sis, necessario quaedam praemissa
erit falsa; Boerhavius suam probet, quid itaque supererit?
Corcula illa numerosa Erucarum Boerhavius hodie in lectione publica depinxit.
Utinam non aegre feres me liberius ratiocinantem. Vale!
D[omi]n[u]s Gaubius laborat Tertiana.

The letter is undated, but is written in 1737, and probably between April-August.
When it comes to dating letters with no. L0332 - L0344, here follows the same principle as made by the editors of Bref and Skrifvelser, i.e., these are probably written during the period from the end of April to August 1737, some may have been added after the 6th of August. The mutual order is also not entirely certain.
Places of dispatch and destination [address] not specified, but there is reason to assume they were Leiden and Hartecamp.
