Abstract
Linnaeus had asked Johann Bartsch what Herman Boerhaave had answered. Bartsch tells him that Boerhaave had been pleased that Linnaeus had promised to instruct Bartsch in natural history. Boerhaave had then asked Bartsch to come and fetch a letter for the procurators of the Society of Suriname [Sociëteit van Suriname] and to go to Amsterdam. Bartsch has finished his exams.
Johan Frederik Gronovius has shown Bartsch great kindness; he had given Bartsch seeds from Ceylon. Bartsch does not know what to do with the rest of the copies of Linnaeus’s
Flora [Lapponica]
. The following week Bartsch will go to Amsterdam and the day after to Kadwick.

Fautori suo Optimo
S[alutem]
Joannes Bartsch.
Quaerisne, quid responderit Boerhaave; egit grates quam maximas pro Tua
benevolentia; mihi vero respondit, cum ipsi ad quaestionem eius, quid vellem per
mensem illum in Belgio facere; ego respondi, volo Tua vi promissorum Tuorum uti
instructione in historia naturali; tum laetus respondit D[ominus] Boerhaave; quam
optime.
Hucusque omnia bene processerunt, et nemo scit me iam omnia perpessum examina;
si placet igitur, nec Tu ulli dicas. Memento bene promissae Tuae ante discessum
meum instructionis et habebis aeternas aeternas [
sic
] gratias in secula
seculorum. Amen.
Gronovius plane singulari et extraordinario favore me amplexus est; obtulit mihi
ipse semina Zeylanica, quid hoc sibi vult? Quid mihi faciendum cum reliquis Florae
Tuae exemplaribus; ego nihil dixi Gronovio, quod restent in Angliam mittenda apud
me. Reliqua distribui, sed cuinam illa tradenda, quibus nulla adscripta sunt nomina?
Septimana futura ego certissime petam Amstelaedamum. Cras ad Kadwickum. Utinam
responderes quidquam, idque mox. Vale, ter Vale!
Die ♄ [Saturni].
