Johan Ernst Gunnerus thanks Linnaeus for his last letter [Linnaeus to Gunnerus, 25 March 1770{L4353}] with all its information. He is also grateful for the Saxifraga tridactylites that Linnaeus sent him. This Saxifraga has made Gunnerus more careful regarding his opinions of Saxifraga cespitosa and the other species of the Saxifraga that he considered to be varieties. Gunnerus is sure, though, that Saxifraga groenlandica is a mere variety of Saxifraga cespitosa, which Linnaeus can see from Gunnerus’s, Flora, II [Gunnerus refers to his Flora Norvegica]]. On the 27 of April Gunnerus will undertake a tour of visitation to Nordland and Finnmarken. He will then collect many specimens of Saxifraga cespitosa, especially at Maasö in the western part of Finnmarken. When Gunnerus returns in September or October, he will send specimens to Linnaeus. Gunnerus possesses Linnaeus’s Saxifraga cernua in Flora Lapponica. He will have it depicted so that it can later be inserted in the Norwegian ”Acta”, VI [Gunnerus refers to the publications of the Royal Norwegian Society of Sciences and Letters, Det Kongelige Norske Videnskabers Selskab, Det Kongelige Norske Videnskabers Selskabs Skrifter]. Gunnerus realizes that the Mya he sent is in reality no Mya arctica. Gunnerus means that Linnaeus has brought all the species of the ”Tang”, which are membraneous and pellucid without the usual fructification of the Fuci, to the Ulvae. Gunnerus has Chrysoplenium oppositifolium from Niels Henrik Tyrholm’s herbarium as a Norwegian herb. However, he has removed it from his Flora, since he believes that the late Tyrholm has not found it in Norway. Gunnerus has considered a plant that he found on a mountain at Trondheim to be a Centunculus minimus. If he is not mistaken regarding his description of it and he finds it again, he will send seeds of it. However, he cannot send seeds that year because of his tour of visitation. Linnaeus will see Stellaria cerastoides? in Gunnerus’s Flora, II, which is being published. There will also be an illustration and short description of it. Unfortunately, the herb is lost. But he hopes to find a new specimen at Maasö, where he found the now lost one.
