Abstract
Johann Bartsch is about to finish his exams. Then he hopes to be able to begin his journey. However, there are some problems. He is not able to pay all the money for the books; it is not much, but a lot for he who does not have much. He asks Linnaeus’s advice. Bartsch wonders whether George Clifford might help him so that he can happily leave Leiden. The following week Herman Boerhaave has invited Bartsch to his estate. Thus Bartsch has great expectations. Bartsch hopes that he will receive a cheerful answer from Linnaeus. He sends his regards to Clifford.

Fautori suo Optimo
S[alutem] P[lurimam]
Joannes Bartsch.
Iam eousque perventum, ut futuro die ♂ [Martis] absolvam Academica, et me
summopere stimulem, ut accelerare queam discessum, quem volente Deo spero
certissime futura septimana circa finem futurum. Verum quantum est, quod me excruciat
summopere! Certe debita vix solvere potero omnia pro libris, licet non adeo magna,
tamen ei, qui aliter nihil retineret, maxima; quid consilii? Imploro Te, qui me totum regis,
utinam Tua intercessione iam ex liberalitate D[omini] Cliffortii, licet haud promerita
exoptare, sperare, accipere possem, ut libere laeteque Lugduno discederem. Futura
septimana D[ominus] Boerhaavius me invitavit in suum praedium, ex quo multa adhuc
spero. Utinam illum servet Deus in annos Nestoreos! Utinam laetam exspectare deberem
ex Te responsionem, eamque non nimis diu retardatam; horreo enim, quando cogito, me
tamdiu retardasse meum abitum. Salutes ter quaterque D[ominum] Cliffortium, cui fausta
quaevis adprecor ex animo. Vale!
Lugd[uni] die ♀ [Veneris].
