Job Baster sends Linnaeus some observations on corals and the animals that live inside them, as well as on other marine creatures.
He had sent them to the Royal Society in London in March, and they had been received there with approval. So Baster does not want to let Linnaeus wait for the official transactions of the society [Philosophical transactions of the Royal Society of London] but sends him a manuscript copy with coloured pictures. [Baster’s manuscript was published in “Observationes de corallinis”].
Baster asks Linnaeus to promote the study of corals by all means, so that their true nature may be revealed.
Baster is also anxious to hear from Linnaeus and other readers if there are dubious or difficult passages in his texts.
