Abstract
That morning Johann Bartsch had been happy to receive a letter from Linnaeus [this letter has not come down to us]. However, Linnaeus did not mention his own manuscript [of
Flora Lapponica
] that Bartsch had sent him, which worried Bartsch. Bartsch hopes that it was given to Linnaeus together with the letter [Bartsch refers to the letter of the 8
th
of April{L0074}]. Bartsch has visited the typographer [Conrad Wishoff], who obviously knew nothing. Bartsch had then asked the typographer whether he had received something from the book seller in Amsterdam [Salomon Schouten]. Bartsch did not want to make such further inquiries that the typographer would be encouraged to talk to Johan Frederik Gronovius. Bartsch had informed Isaac Lawson that Linnaeus will come.
P.S. Gronovius and Lawson have just left Bartsch. Gronovius wanted to talk about
Flora Lapponica
. Bartsch, however, pretended he knew nothing.
That very moment, Bartsch received Linnaeus’s manuscript. Bartsch wants to receive further instructions on matters of printing.
[As to the letter from Claes Sohlberg to Linnaeus, added in the left margin of fol. 365r, see letter{L6375}].

Fautori Optimo
S[alutem]
Joannes Bartsch.
Hoc mane Tuas, quas ad me dedisti, laetus accipiebam litteras. Anxius tamen
haerebam, de transmisso ad Te Manuscripto Tuo, cum eius nullam faceres mentionem.
Spero tamen illud Tibi una cum litteris meis fuisse traditum. Adivi Typographum,
miratus summopere illum hactenus plane nihil de toto negotio gnarum percipiens;
mutavi ergo illico meam sententiam, tantummodo quaerens, annon chartam a
Bibliopola Amstelodamensi accepisset. Repulsam tuli, nec volui ulterius multa
quaerere, ne forsitan illum auri sacra fames vexaret, ut sciscitaretur plura forte ex
Gronovio. Lawsonum de futuro Vestrum adventu certiorem feci. En ergo meam in
mandatis Tuis exsequendis promptitudinem! Doleo autem summopere irritum fore
propositum Tuum, quo plagulam speciminis loco impressam videre credebas. Cura, ut
valeas!
Dabam Lugd[uni] Bat[avorum] III Id[us] April[is] die ☿ [Mercurii]
MDCCXXXVI.
Hocce momento me reliquere Gronovius et Lawson. Gronovius multa
loqui volebat de Flora Lapponica, ego vero simulans plenariam ignorantiam ad omnia
ex Tacito respondebam. Cape Tibi hoc!
Quam mirae occurrunt mutationes, intra tantillum temporis spatium!
Iamiam accipio Tuum M[anu]s[crip]tum. Quaeritur, quid iam cum Typographo
faciendum. Rescribas cras, an ei revelandum totum opus, monito tamen addito, ut
omnia fiant tacite! Quid videtur Tibi? Vale!
