Abstract
Johann Bartsch has received a letter from Linnaeus [this letter has not come down to us]. He comments on the passage where Linnaeus states that the Lapps also have their aphrodisiacs, though they never use them and that they are the most sterile of all the Europeans, perhaps because they contemn
Muria
etc. Bartsch wonders whether Linnaeus might mean that love is cold among the Lapps because they are sterile etc.
Bartsch will send a sheet the following day or on the Tuesday [Bartsch refers to the work with
Flora Lapponica
]. He entreats Linnaeus to answer as soon as possible.

Fautori suo colendo
S[alutem]
Joh[annes] Bartsch.
Tuas, quas ad me dedisti, accepi litteras mihi gratissimas, sed ecce dubium,
quod remansit, me urget, ut denuo hisce tua perturbare cogar negotia. Est observatio:
Habent et Lappones sua in patria aphrodisiaca nascentia, quamvis eis nunquam
utantur. Steriles licet quidem prae omnibus reliquis Europaeis sint Lappones (forte ob
contemtum muriae); apud eos tamen sine Cerere et Baccho non
frigere
Venerem
vix adsererent
ipsi.
Nonne tua mens, quod frigeat apud eos Venus, quia steriles. Si est, nonne potius
apud eos tamen sine Cerere et Baccho
frigere
Venerem vix
negarent
ipsi.
Cras vel die ♂ [Martis] transmittam philyram. Respondeas quantocyus. Vale!
