On 16 February [1771] Antonio Capdevila had sent Linnaeus a letter [this letter has not come down to us] from New Carthago in the province of Tobarra in which he had enclosed an American plant and also seeds and a description. Therefore, he eagerly awaits Linnaeus’s opinion. Capdevila mentions a yearly production of 5, 000 pounds of Galca. Capdevila has made a Spanish translation of Linnaeus’s Philosophia botanica[Capdevila’s translation was never published]. He now plans a Spanish translation of the 1754 edition of Genera plantarum [Capdevila means Genera plantarum [...] editio quinta]. Therefore, he eagerly awaits the new edition of this work [a sixth edition was published in 1764, Genera plantarum [...] editio sexta, but Capdevila’s translation, Generos de las Plantas de Linneo was never published]. He will then deal with the Vienna edition from 1764 of Species plantarum [Species plantarum [...] editio tertia].
P.S. Linnaeus should write to Bonillo via Madrid.
