Abstract
This document is part of a series of interviews with former prisoners of Nazi concentration camps. The interviews were conducted in 1945-1946 by the Polish Research Institute in Lund.
On 1 September 1943, the witness was arrested by the Gestapo in Warsaw during a crackdown and imprisoned at Pawiak. On 3 October 1943, she was transported to the concentration camp at Auschwitz, where she was interned until 17 January 1945. In early February 1944, in the midst of a major typhus outbreak a delousing was carried out in the camp, lasting approximately two weeks. During the delousing process, which was held in wintertime, the prisoners were stripped of their shirts and herded from one barrack to another. One of the top and fatal consequences of poor planning in the delousing procedure was a high death rate among the prisoners.
Notes
About the collection: At the end of World War II approximately 20,000 Nazi concentration camp prisoners were evacuated to Sweden. Many of them were Polish citizens. In order to document their experiences, Zygmunt Łakociński founded the Polish Research Institute in Lund. The collection contains 512 in-depth interviews with survivors, materials that they brought with them to Sweden, and also other material that the institute collected, compiled, and created.
