Obverse description: Draped bust of Frederick IV I to right, T behind bust and rosette on shoulder.
Reverse description: Book on fire.
Obverse legend: No legend.
Reverse legend: No legend.
History: Frederick IV became king of Naples during a civil war, fighting against the claims of Louis XII of France (the future king Louis III) and Ferdinand II of Aragon (the future king Ferdinand III). The flaming book on the reverse of the coin is a reference to this ongoing conflict and was supposed to symbolize Frederick IV's forgiving nature. While the legend is unfortunately gone, the book was meant to be accompanied with Frederick's personal motto, recedant vetera (''let the past be bygones!'').
Note: The legend of this carlino piece has apparently been precisely clipped. In all likelyhood, someone used this coin for a necklace.
