Obverse description: Crowned and draped bust of Ferdinand I to right, T behind bust and rosette on shoulder.
Reverse description: Facing image of a winged St. Michael standing, holding lance with banner and shield.
Obverse legend: •FERRANDVS⦂D⦂G⦂R•SICILIE⦂IE• (''Ferdinand, by the grace of God, king of Sicily and Jerusalem'').
Reverse legend: •IVSTA•TVENDA• (''the right things have to be defended'').
History: This new coin marked a few important changes from the types of coronato minted earlier, for the kings name surrounds the royal bust instead of the cross. The image of St. Michael, captain of the hosts of heaven and the killer of the dragon and of satan, was definitedly favored by the Sicilian kings, occupied as they were with the suppression of an unruly nobility whose pretensions were a threat to public order and their own authority
