The enclosed letter is from Johann Joachim Lange [Lange to Linnaeus, 22 July 1756{L2069}] in Halle. It is probably about the Horti Malabarici pars prima [-duodecima & ultima] he has bought on Linnaeus’s request for the library of Uppsala. On his way home Peter Forsskål has visited Erfurt, Jena, Halle and Leipzig and their botanical gardens from which he is taking home numerous plants to Linnaeus. The Heleborus wanted by Linnaeus, but not available in Göttingen, could be had in Jena as well as in Leipzig. Forsskål has secured seeds of it for Linnaeus. As to Aruncus, Forsskål is bringing male and female flowers of it. In Jena he has a contact, who, on Linnaeus’s request, is willing to procure seeds of the wild Aruncus.
Michaël A. Baeckner will soon leave Berlin and return to Sweden with a box from Johann Gottlieb Gleditsch containing things on Linnaeus’s want list. Linnaeus has wished to have a coffee tree. This will be delivered next spring, as Gleditsch fears that it will not survive if moved this autumn.
