Linnaeus has not yet received any copy of the catalogue of the King’s [Adolf Fredrik] cabinet [Linnaeus refers to the Museum S:ae R:ae M:tis Adolphi Friderici Regis], but he will try to get one for Pehr Osbeck.
Linnaeus had received a living specimen of the Dodecantheon, since it was impossible to get it from seeds. However, he is sure that all the seeds Osbeck got were fresh.
Linnaeus comments on the bamboo.
Linnaeus’s Syngenesistes (Coryza chinensis) is growing in the greenhouse and has flowers, thanks to Osbeck. It comes from seeds given by Osbeck. It also flowered the year before.
Chenopodium has many variants, and since Linnaeus’s specimen is taken from Europe, it is quite similar to the normal Swedish one.
Linnaeus sees that the Pentandristes belongs to the species Rhamni. The petals do not alternate with the stamens, and he also mentions other details.
Linnaeus mentions three other plants very briefly.
Linnaeus has not seen the tropical bird before. He has some idea of what it might be and ends with a reference to a nice picture in the third part of Mark Calesby’s work [Linnaeus refers to The Natural history of Carolina].
Linnaeus corrects himself on the Coryza that he had said was Coryza Chinensis. It must instead be Coryza cinerea.
P. S. Linnaeus reports that he has got some seeds from Gothenburg. He adds the advice that seeds should be put into water; if they do not sink, they are no good.
