Nicolaus Joseph von Jacquin thanks Linnaeus for the letter of 18 February 1774{L1234} and for the scales of the male Cycas flower.
Jacquin has got seeds of Hedysarum alpinum which will clear the confused issue when they have grown. The size of the plant is the major difference in relation to the formerly published variants.
Jacquin sends a new specimen of Crotalaria.
Jacquin thinks that there is great confusion in the literature between Selinum palustre and Selinum sylvestre. He tries to give the more important features as clearly as possible, according to his understanding.
Jacquin does not agree with Linnaeus on the name Scorzonera for a species that Jacquin had tentatively called Leontodon Danubiale It could also have been identified as Linnaeus’s Leontodon hastile. Jacquin sends a specimen.
Jacquin has managed to send a package of books meant for the Uppsala University with a Swedish diplomat passing Vienna on his way from Turkey to Stockholm. Jacquin specifies the contents of the package and mentions the sum of money he expects to receive for the books. He suggests that the money could be sent by some Swedish diplomat.
In the same package Jacquin also sends the plates ready for the second volume of Florae Austriacae, sive plantarum selectarum the text of which will not be ready until the coming July. Jacquin lists the plates concerned and suggests that they also be given to the Uppsala University library.
