Linnaeus writes to the Secretary of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences [Kungliga Svenska Vetenskapsakademien, i.e., Pehr WilhelmWargentin] in order to tell him that it is not possible for Linnaeus to send his report on the mosses today [the report was never sent to the Academy, it was published as a the dissertation, Semina muscorum detecta].
He is not “malicious” in his comments on the bird [Linnaeus to the Academy of Sciences, 5 May 1750{L1123}].
The lumpfish is well-known; it is called Lumpus anglorum and is the most common fish in Malmö. The Swedish name is “sjuryggsfisk. In the west of Sweden it is called “kvabbsugga”.
Linnaeus would love to see Carl Hårleman, “my father” in Uppsala[the phrase “father” should be seen as an expression of the close relationship between Hårleman and Linnaeus].
